Though there's something very de rigur about this band's approach to post-metal, it is difficult to describe. Imagine if Year of No Light had stayed on their initial trajectory (the early Nord years) instead of deviating into the more contemplative and ambient territory of Ausserwelt. And imagine they had perfected that heavy and pounding formula along the way. More importantly, this album succeeds where current bands seem to be faltering (Cult of Luna, Mouth of the Architect, etc)
Favorite track: VII The Fall.
